Aging Services and Programs for Older Iowans & Their Caregivers

Services that are funded and provided directly by Southeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging, Inc. are available on a contribution basis.

Advocacy & Outreach

These services focus on helping elders and caregivers gain access to services, protect their rights and promote an interest in aging issues.

Information & Assistance

Area Agency on Aging staff will work with elders and their caregivers to provide current information about services that may be available to them.

Video/DVD Lending Library

The Area Agency on Aging has purchased a large number of videos and DVDs that are available to anyone interested in issues affecting elders and their caregivers.

Agency Newsletter

The Advisor is published quarterly and contains useful information for elders and their caregivers. Read The Advisor online or to request that your name be added to the mailing list.

Senior Health Fair

This event is held annually in October. Over 70 vendors are available to display their products and services that help promote healthy aging.

Caregiver Seminar

This is a forum for caregivers to come together to rejuvenate themselves and hear from expert presenters about the joys of caregiving and tips to help with the challenges.

Public Education

Area Agency on Aging staff are available to make presentations to groups about issues affecting the elderly and their caregivers.

Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support

Program specialists work with families, elders and caregivers to provide education and support for those affected by dementia. They can also help you find local support groups.

Case Management

Case Managers work with older adults and family members to assess needs, arrange for, and evaluate supportive services in order to help elders remain in their own homes safely.

Transportation

This local and regional service is available for elders who do not have private transportation and who are unable to utilize public transportation to meet their needs. Transit service funded by the Area Agency on Aging is offered on a contribution basis to persons aged 60 or older.

Medication Management

A registered pharmacist will review an elder’s prescription and over the counter medications for potential adverse reactions. Call the Area Agency on Aging office for information about this service.

Mental Health Outreach

This program is designed to identify, evaluate and provide emotional support to elders. Call the Area Agency on Aging office for information about this service.

Assisted Transportation

This is transportation provided to elders who need assistance getting from their home to the vehicle and back. Call the Area Agency on Aging office for information about this service.
